I really let myself indulge on the weekends.  Now that I started documenting it, I Kind of feel embarrassed about how much food I ate and that so much of it was sooo rich and bad for you.  I don’t believe in cutting out all of your favorite foods, so I’m going to work on balancing it, like I do on the weekdays.  For example, if I know we’re going out to eat for dinner, I’ll have a salad for lunch.  Or I’ll go for a walk to offset the calories.

On Friday, I did a 20 minute walk and a 40 minute walk around Laurel Heights because I knew I was having pizza that night.  My fiance whipped it up using the Trader Joe’s garlic and herb pizza dough with spicy italian sausage and it was sooooo delicious!  Better than delivery.

On Saturday,  I got my haircut at the Cinta Aveda School and Salon.  I got a trim and decided to go with the blunt bangs this time.  I go here because they always do an amazing job and I just can’t shell out $100 everytime I need a trim.  I have really thick, long hair and that seems to be the standard.  Cinta Aveda School and Salon is a teaching school, so it takes almost 2 hours for the cut and the teachers check and ensure your hair is cut perfectly.  The best part?  They charge you only $21 for a long haircut!  Simply amazing!

I met up with my friend after and we split a burger and fries at Split Burger by the Metreon.  I knew that I’d be walking A LOT all over downtown, so I could eat whatever I wanted.  This was no ordinary burger- it had braised short ribs and jalapenos.  I really had high hopes for this place because I’m always looking for yummy places to eat while I’m downtown, but this place was ok.  I think that the fries were underseasoned despite being very crisp, which I liked.  The burger was good and the braised short ribs were rich, but I have to say that I probably wouldn’t order it again.  It was kind of like a pulled pork sandwich, which I was not expecting in a braised short rib.  Don’t get me wrong, I love pulled pork- I just don’t want to pay $10 for it + $3 extra for fries.  Maybe next time I’ll try the house burger: the Split burger.  Also, I have to mention that I saw most people eating salads, so maybe this place has better salads than burgers?

For dinner, I met up with my fiance and we patiently waited at the Cheesecake Factory at the top of Macy’s.  We go here only once a year for the fried mac and cheese balls (not pictured).  YUM!  I ordered the chicken and biscuit, but I have to say that I was pretty disappointed in it.  It just lacked depth of flavor and I guess I was expecting more herbs- it was just very flat.  I knew I shouldn’t have deviated from my favorite Bistro Shrimp pasta!  I was so full and only ate about 1/3 of the plate.  Also, the two Japanese girls who sat next to us were completely shocked at the size of our plates! haha

On Sunday, we went for a 3 mile run to Ocean beach.  I’m pretty excited because it was the fastest I’ve run yet- 29 minutes!  Sweet!!!  We were meeting with our wedding coordinator, caterer and DJ for lunch, so I grabbed a croissant to go.  The lunch ended up being moved to the end of our meeting, so my fiance and I split the rest of my chicken and biscuit dinner from the Cheesecake Factory. I also have to mention that we were a 1/2 hour early to the meeting, so I suggested on grabbing some ice cream in the hot hot weather.  What a brilliant idea I thought!  Then when we met with my caterer, she said that the coordinator and DJ were running late because they closed the bridge, so we were going to do the tasting first.  What a terrible idea to eat the ice cream- I was soooo stuffed.

For dinner, I wasn’t really hungry but I knew that we had to finish the rest of my salt and pepper pork and brown rice, so my fiance whipped up a yummy stir fry with zuccini, carrots, onions and spicy, garlic paste.  Yum!

Overall, I think it was a bad decision to go to the Cheesecake Factory on Saturday.  Mostly because the portions are so huge and I don’t really want to keep that kind of food at home during the week.  Luckily, we finished it off on Sunday! haha

2.5 cups Popcorn Indiana aged white cheddar popcorn  150 calories

Dinner:  Bento box with teriyaki chicken (dark meat), salmon sashimi, soy-sesame salad, white rice  646 calories
Miso soup (not pictured)  85 calories

Snack:  Peach  59 calories

Total:  1327 calories consumed

Exercise:    30 minute run at 6mph = 3 miles  306 calories burned
5 minute walk at 4mph = 25 calories burned
50 minutes BODYCOMBAT kickboxing =  515 calories burned
20 minute walk to/from work = 78 calories burned

Total:  924 calories burned

*I went over my calorie limit by 127 calories, but I burned 924 calories.  This means I burned a total of 797 calories total including my overage in calories.

So our friends cancelled dinner plans because one of them is going to Europe and felt that he had too much to do beforehand, so he couldn’t make it.  Instead, my fiance and I planned to go the gym.  Well, I almost didn’t make it because I had the expectation of not going to the gym and eating a really delicious meal on Thursday.

On the shuttle ride, I got a headache/nauseated as per usual before heading to the gym and I almost just walked straight home.  Instead, I told myself that I would just take it easy- that I didn’t need to run, at least just do the BODYCOMBAT class.  I made it to the treadmill and I told myself that if I could just run 2 miles at 6mph, then I could walk for the rest of the time before my class.  I did the two miles, walked for 5 minutes and then ran the next 10 minutes at 6mph.  So glad I did it!  Sometimes, you need to set mini goals and it makes it easier get through your workout.

My fiance met me at the treadmills around 15 minutes into my run and we both had the same idea: dinner at You See Sushi!   It’s so funny how alike we think sometimes!  We had one of our first dates here, so I have fond memories of this place.  Plus, they have THE BEST teriyaki chicken ever.  Yum!

Oh!  I almost forgot to mention that I would normally order the tempura in place of the sashimi.  I love sashimi, but I also LOVE tempura.  It was a hard decision, but I feel victorious!  I saved like 500 calories!!! YES!!!

Sometimes going over your calories is OK; What I ate 9.4.13

Me 9.4.13Food 9.4.13Breakfast: Blueberries and Trader Joe’s pre-stirred peach yogurt  237 calories

Lunch:  Salt & pepper pork ribs with brown rice + 1 crab rangoon (not pictured)  922 calories

Dinner:  JIF whipped Peanut butter & strawberry jam on whole wheat bread  440

Total:  1599 calories consumed

Walking for 60 minutes  233 calories burned

*166 calories over my calorie limit of 1200 + 233 calories burned.

First off, I forgot my Greek yogurt, but luckily I saved a peach yogurt from a breakfast meeting last Friday.  These Trader Joe’s pre-stirred yogurts are sooo delicious!  BUT they are filled with so many calories and less protein than the Greek yogurt, so I will not be having these again.  I tried to portion it out in my sweet measuring bowl but apparently 4 oz is less than 1/2 a cup because I only had about a quarter cup left in the yogurt container…

We ordered Chinese food for a lunch meeting.  I knew that having the salt & pepper pork with brown rice would put me over my calories, so I HAD to do my walks during my breaks.  That burned 233 calories, but it wasn’t enough to cover all of my extra calories.  I’m OK with this because I burned like 700 calories the day before.  No big deal.

What was tough was coming home from class at 10pm and still being hungry.  Now I know that the salt & pepper pork makes me too full, sleepy, makes me go over my calorie limit and leaves me hungry at the end of the day.  My dear fiance picked me up from class and we always grab some kind of fast food snack.  I did my best to say no and I woke up super hungry this morning.  No more salt & pepper pork chops for me- it’s a downward spiral.

Victory:  I scored a 20/20 on my pop quiz in Microbiology!  YES!!!  =)

What I ate 9.3.13

Food 9.3.13

Breakfast:  1/2 cup Blueberries and 1/2 cup 0% Greek yogurt  101 calories
Lunch:        2 cups baby spring mix, 1 tbsp toasted sliced almonds, 1 peach, 2 tbsp raspberry vinaigrette  159 calories
2.5 cups Popcorn Indiana aged white cheddar popcorn  150 calories
Dinner:       2 soft tacos with 99% free turkey, bell peppers, onions, sour cream, salsa especial and feta cheese  510 calories
1 cup broccoli  30 calories
1/4 cup black beans  55 calories (there was a 1/2 cup, but I only ate half of that)
Dessert:     1 tbsp Trader Joe’s cocoa almond spread
Snacks:       8 Trader Joe’s social crackers
Total:          1240 calories consumed

Exercise:    20 minute run at 6mph = 2 miles  204 calories burned
5 minute walk at 4mph = 25 calories burned
50 minutes BODYCOMBAT kickboxing =  515 calories burned
20 minute walk to/from work = 78 calories burned
Total:    740 calories burned

I have to admit that working out after a long day of work is tough.  On my shuttle ride to the gym, I inevitably develop a headache and start making excuses about how I don’t need to go.  But I decided that since I have class on Wednesday, I can’t workout on Wednesday and the fact that we’re going out to dinner with friends on Thursday, so I can’t work out on Thursday, I HAVE to work out on Tuesday. I did and it always makes me feel so good about myself.  And tired. haha

My workout didn’t start out too well though.  Actually, I got there and had my choice of which treadmill to use- this never happens!  Obviously, I chose the window treadmill with the view of the Golden Gate Bridge, albeit foggy on that side.  I went to grab the spray bottle to sanitize the treadmill before using and the whole bottom of the bottle fell on the floor and onto my shoes.  I was pissed, but I wasn’t going to let that ruin my workout.  I sopped up all the liquid and wiped off the bottoms of my shoes, so I didn’t slip on the treadmill and hit 6mph.  Yes!  Victory!  I really could have let that incident ruin my day and my workout, but I got over it, for the sake of getting in a workout since I couldn’t on the next two days.  Plus, I was already dressed in my workout clothes, at the gym and signed up for the BODYCOMBAT class.  I had to.

Also, I made the decision to weigh myself after working out at the gym.  I don’t know why I did that- my standard protocol is to weigh myself in the morning, after I handle my business, so I have an empty stomach and haven’t consumed any extra liquids.  So to my surprise, the scale weighed in at 131.2.  I don’t know why, but I sort of believed that the scale at my house was off or something because last week, I weighed in at 130.6.  I only half believed it.  Well, now that the gym scale has confirmed 131.2, after eating all day, drinking a ton of water and sweating some of it out, I believe that I am in the 130 lb. range!  I LOVE this confirmation and I’m just a few ounces closer to being in my 120’s!  YES!!!

Labor Day Weekend 2013

Friday 8.30.13                                             Saturday 8.31.13                                            Sunday 9.1.13

Food 8.30.13 Food 8.31.13 Food 9.1.13

Monday 9.2.13                                            Me 9.3.13

Food 9.2.13Me 9.3.13Confession:  I am definitely missing a lot of things that I ate on Saturday for the BBQ like the chips that I ate with the guacamole or the chocolate chip cookies or BBQ chicken…  Also,  I’m not entirely sure about my late night snacks. It’s true, I go nuts on the weekend and documenting your food in front of everyone is kind of embarrassing, so I had a hard time snapping pics of my food to show you.  I googled pics for a few things like the sausage pizza (I ate 3 slices), turkey sandwich, and chicken soup.  And obviously the Cheez its and Cocoa almond spread.

This Labor Day weekend was exactly what I needed: rest and relaxation.  I enjoyed the beautiful, sunny weather in Dolores Park for a BBQ, walked around Golden Gate Park and had a great lunch at Nopalito, studied for my Microbiology quiz and watched a lot of Orange is the New Black.

I also ran 4 miles on Saturday morning around Golden Gate Park, past the De Young/Academy of Sciences and around Stow Lake 2 times!  Sweet!  On Monday, my fiance joined me for a nice 3 mile run to Ocean beach.  Afterwards, we split a hot turkey sub with the works from our favorite beach spot, Java Beach Cafe.  Yum- that sandwich really hits the spot!

Pizza Friday! 8.30.13

8.30.13So today is Pizza Friday!  Yes!  We’ve been pretty busy the past few weekends, so we’ve been skipping Pizza Friday for parties, dinner, movies, etc.  This Friday, I’m totally excited to finally have some pizza!  It’s probably going to be around 1200 calories for 4 slices of a medium sausage pizza, which is exactly my daily allowance for calories.  =/  However, to make up for this, I’m going to walk for my two 15 minute breaks as well as 40 minutes during my 1 hour lunch.  Not to mention the 20 minutes of walking to/from the shuttle for work.  This will give me 443 calories extra to play with.

I love my Friday walks because I have a chance to walk up the Laurel Height’s hills and take in the stunning views of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge as well as the gorgeous million dollar homes of the area.  I swear the gardeners are out there every single day!  Also, if I’m not too tired from all that walking, I’m going to try to make it to the gym and do a 20 minute run.  It’s ok if I don’t make it to the run because I think 443 calories extra is plenty.

Tomorrow we’re going to a goodbye BBQ in the Mission for our friends who are moving to New York.  I know there will definitely be some delicious, fatty food going on and I will probably try all of it.  I’m thinking of making a blueberry and peach pie with a streusel topping or maybe a dessert pizza or maybe even just a fruit salad.  It depends on how much time I have and if I can get it together after my big Saturday run.

On Saturdays, my fiance and I like to run through Golden Gate Park to Ocean Beach.  It’s about 3 miles from our house or 4 miles if we take the long way.  This will possibly be the third day in a row running, so we’ll see how I feel.  Wish me luck!

What I ate on 8.29.13

food 8.29.13

1.  Blueberries with Greek yogurt

2.  Blueberry salad with almonds and Trader Joe’s champagne vinaigrette + Trader Joe’s mini bag popcorn

3.  Beef brisket pho

4.  Peach (Actually, I ate two because they were soooo delicious!)

Total calorie estimate:  1290

I’m pretty good during the work week, but I have to say that I go pretty nuts on the weekend.  We call Friday, “Pizza Friday” because my fiance and I order a medium sausage pizza from our favorite pizza place, Irving Pizza.  We use the phone app “EAT 24” to order it because they make it so easy to order.  It keeps track of what you ordered last and it gives you cash coupons to use towards your next order with them!  The best part?  They give you a weekend coupon every weekend, so you end up getting around $4 off.  Sweet!

Also, I wasn’t able to do the whole 40 minute run.  I ran two miles on level 6 mph, which is a 10 minute mile and then I walked at 4 and ran at 6 again for the next 20 minutes.  I blame it on taking a whole week off exercise because I made poor decisions like having the intent to run in the morning, getting all set up the night before only to wake up and realize it is too dark and dangerous to run through Golden Gate Park that early in the morning or staying at my sister’s house for my niece’s 1st birthday party and getting bad sleep because I have a hard time sleeping on an air mattress and so I just couldn’t bare to go on a run in the hot hot weather… Excuses and run on sentences, I know.  At least I finished the night with a good BodyCombat class, 55 minutes of karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai.  It always kicks my but and pushes me harder than I would on my own.

Mini Victory:  I will say that running at 6 mph is pretty new to me.  I used to run at 6-6.5 on incline 4 in my glory days, but when I rejoined the gym last June, I started at 4.0.  Yes, 4.0!  That’s probably a fast paced walk, but everyone has to start somewhere.  My goal is to be able to run at 7 for a prolonged amount of time, which is about 8:34 minute mile.  After that, I’d like to start adding inclines.

Victory! Fitting into my skinny jeans! 8.29.13

8.29.13Hi!  Here’s another quick bathroom pic.  I’m kind of obsessed with bows and polka dots.  Today, I’m wearing a tank that has both!  Sweet!

Confession #1:  For at least one year, I wore black leggings because none of my jeans fit. =/

Confession #2: I kept all those jeans.  I just couldn’t get rid of my beloved gummy 7’s, which are my absolute fave.  And I have a hard time getting rid of clothes that are still perfectly nice that I bought with my hard, earned money. I stored them in my closet where they were practically unreachable.

VICTORY:  I’m wearing new skinny jeans that I bought two years ago!!!  Yes, I kept them that long because I had the intent on fitting in them.  YES!!!  I’m so excited!

Tonight, I have a standing date with the gym.  On Thursdays, the Les Mills’ BodyCombat class is scheduled at 6:15pm, so I should be able to get in a 40 minute run on the treadmill before that.  Man, it’s so hard to go past 30 minutes on the boring treadmill.  I’d rather be running outside, so I’ve got to dig in deep and push myself harder.

Me 130.6 lbs. 8.28.13

Me 130.6 lbs 8.28.13

Hi there!

I took a quick pic in the bathroom at work to show my progress. It actually became too much work posting everything that I ate and I got tired of it.

My goal was to lose 10 lbs. by June, but that didn’t happen- I wasn’t seriously working at it. Then while on vacation in Cabo in June, my wonderful fiance proposed! =) Ever since June, I’ve been on a mission to lose the extra weight. It was time to get serious.

I started counting my calories again on the My Fitness Pal app and they gave me 1200 calories to work with. I also got an email from my gym saying that they would waive the enrollment fee if I rejoined. Sweet! Now, I’m back on the diet and exercise wagon. I have since lost 4.4 lbs. since June and I’m at 130.6 lbs. Yay! I’m that much closer to my goal!

Breakfast + Lunch + Run 1.19.13

Breakfast + Lunch + Run 1.19.13

Run: Golden Gate Park to Ocean Beach (~3 miles, 370 cals)
Breakfast: Trouble Coffee’s Cinnamon Toast (~330 cals)
Lunch: Pan fried tilapia (265 cals) and Veggies (80 cals)

Oh man, I felt really good on my run this morning. My boyfriend and I did our normal weekend run through Golden Gate Park to Ocean beach, which is about 3 miles. I almost didn’t go because I woke up really early and felt like I needed more sleep, but since my boyfriend was intent on running, I just had to go too. Every time I run, it feels like the first time and by the end of it, I feel really good and really proud of myself.
After running to the ocean, we always grab a tasty treat and today we had Trouble Coffee’s cinnamon toast. This place is super tiny but the toast is fantastic and worth the wait. They also have lots of other yummy treats on display that I would like to try. For lunch, my boyfriend pan fried some tilapia with some veggies. It was delicious! Honestly, sometimes I am just not in the mood for fish and I’ve wasted it by ordering food instead. I’m trying not to do that and really, it’s good. I don’t know what I was thinking!
